Muzart Arts Center Moves to Larger Location in Downtown Hollywood

Muzart - Creative Arts Studios, a Downtown Hollywood institution serving children and their families since 2005, has a new location and new management.

New owners Bianca Fernandez Lopez and her husband Andres Lopez first became involved with Muzart 2-1/2 years ago when their son Noah, now 5, was enrolled in Muzart’s Budding Artists Program. The Hollywood couple, who are also parents to 1-year-old Sienna, were drawn to the sense of community at Muzart and its offerings that include music, art and movement programs, private classes, workshops, events and exhibits.

Last May, the arts education and enrichment center went on hiatus after then-owner and executive director Tina Buccellato announced that she wanted to pursue new interests. Given Fernandez and Lopez’s love of music and interest in a new venture involving children, taking the helm at Muzart was a natural move.

“For about three years we’ve wanted to do something with kids,” said Fernandez, Muzart’s new executive director, who with her husband has a background in human resources, leadership and psychology. “We were very familiar with Muzart. I knew the brand, I loved the concept. It was perfect. So we decided to form a partnership.”

Fernandez and Lopez reopened Muzart July 25 with a very successful three-week summer camp program at a larger location at 1955 Harrison Street, across the street from the former site. Buccellato remains a partner and serves as a creative consultant.

The new session of classes started September 6, with new and many of the same programs that were offered before. The 3,200-square-foot facility is currently home to art classes for ages 18 months to adult; a combined music and art class (ages 18 months to 2-1/2 years); Kinder Chefs cooking class (ages 5-7); photography (ages 6-12); and movement classes from ballet and hip hop for kids to adult rumba, yoga and pre-natal yoga. The Muzart music program includes a baby music class (infant to 1 year old), parent/child music class (ages 1-3), parent/child art classes (ages 18 months and up) and private or group classes for all ages in piano, guitar, violin and voice. Future programs such as ‘tween and teen etiquette are also being considered.

Muzart also offers monthly workshops, Creative Camp when school is closed, childcare while moms are in class, private one-of-a-kind theme parties, and the After School Arts Program (A.S.A.P.), which includes a daily enrichment class in music, movement or art.

When parents need a night out alone, they can drop off kids ages 2 to 12 at the monthly Date Nite, which features art activities, dinner, dessert, popcorn and a movie on a 7-foot screen from 6:30 to 10 p.m. The next Date Nite on October 8 will feature Kung Fu Panda 3 (PG).

Among Muzart’s adult events are Wine and Paint Parties. These events include all creative materials (paint, canvas and brushes), art instruction, light refreshments and three glasses of wine. Girls Nite IN events are full of fashion, beauty, art, sometimes special themes and guests, and adult beverages.

Muzart also participates in the monthly Third Saturday Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk series by featuring local artists as well as art students’ work during the free event held from 5 to 10 p.m. in Downtown Hollywood. In addition to live music, gallery openings and cultural programming, the event now features a free guided walking tour of the award winning Downtown Hollywood Mural Project, a live performance of Impulse Art by internationally acclaimed “foot-painter” Daniel Pontet and the launch of the Downtown Hollywood Artisan Market.

Fernandez said the historic downtown arts, music and entertainment district is a good fit for Muzart - Creative Arts Studios.

“There are a lot of new businesses opening and momentum in Downtown Hollywood. The area is teeming with creative people of all ages.” she added.

Fernandez’s goals include a focus on Muzart as a family enrichment center.

“It’s not just for the kids but for the parents and entire family,” she said. “Basically, if you come here once, you’re going to want stay and grow with us.”
