LilaSky in Downtown Hollywood Offers "Community Retail Experience" for Families

Parents and children can shop for unique clothing and toys and also play and learn together at LilaSky, an innovative new business in Downtown Hollywood that was designed with families in mind.

Married couple Viviana Barcos and Raymundo Gonzalez opened LilaSky, named for the youngest of their three children, on January 1 at 2019-B Hollywood Boulevard. The 1,800-square-foot concept store offers an eclectic selection of affordable and eco-friendly products created by global artisans. It also offers classes, events and a mini-play studio and is an ideal "destination location" for moms and dads.

"As parents, my husband and I wanted to create a welcoming space where children feel at home, where parents can have a cup of tea and catch up with one another," Barcos said. "It's almost as much a community hotspot as it is a store."

Barcos and Gonzalez have channeled their love of traveling and finding handcrafted items "with soul" into LilaSky. "There is something so special and unique when the items are handmade and created in an environmentally responsible way," Barcos said.

LilaSky's collection represents artisans from the United States, Indonesia, Bali, Mexico and Japan. It also includes products by small companies such as PlanToys, whose products are made from natural rubber wood trees in Thailand, and Fanny & Alexander, whose toys are made in Argentina by local craftsmen from largely local raw materials.

LilaSky's programming schedule includes free events such as Story & Music Time, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturdays, and weekly classes, which offer a free trial class.

Children sing, dance and play instruments with parents at Ta Te Ti - Choco La Te, a Spanish music class on Wednesdays at 4 p.m. for ages 18 months to 3 years and at 5 p.m. for ages 3 to 5.

Yomu (YogaMusic), a bilingual program for ages 3 to 5 and their parents at 6 p.m. Wednesdays, combines music, yoga and mindfulness in an effort to foster self-esteem, compassion and respect.

LilaSky also offers Sensory Integration classes, conducted by behavioral specialists from My Florida Therapy, that promote learning and development in children ages 1 to 7 through varied sensory experiences.

Moms and dads can de-stress with a mini-acupuncture session while their kids enjoy a book or arts and crafts activity during Holistic Happy Hour, from 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays beginning February 3.

Upcoming special events include "Impact of Nature and Mindfulness in Children," presented by Wise Hearts mindful nature program co-founder Sofia Aymerich from 7 to 8 p.m. January 26.

Hollywood residents Barcos and Gonzalez chose the historic downtown arts, music and entertainment district as the home for LilaSky because of its proximity and appeal to young families.

"Downtown Hollywood is growing and has a tremendous amount of potential. There are more and more young families moving into the area and a lot of activities and events to enjoy," Barcos said.

LilaSky is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The grand opening will take place at 5 p.m. February 2. For more information, call 754-263-2482, email, or visit or
