Kitschy Cat Shack in Downtown Hollywood Caters to Cat Lovers and Their Feline Friends

Feline fanciers have found a one-stop shop for all of their pets’ needs at Downtown Hollywood’s Kitschy Cat Shack, South Florida’s first cats-only store.

Hollywood native Lisa Zomaro opened Kitschy Cat Shack, a pet supply store for kitties and fun boutique for cat lovers, on February 26 at 2108 Tyler Street.

Kitschy Cat Shack carries healthy cat food options such as grain-free canned, dry, frozen raw and freeze-dried raw food, as well as treats, supplements, herbal and homeopathic remedies, gentle first-aid supplies, and interactive and self-play toys. The boutique features a variety of cat-themed clothing and accessories, including T-shirts, leggings, jewelry and gift items.

And coming soon is the Kitschy Cat Lounge, a comfy room where visitors can hang out with kitties that are available for adoption through a local rescue group.

Zomaro said the reaction from Kitschy Cat Shack’s customers, some of whom travel from as far as Boca Raton, is “exactly what I’ve been hoping for: ‘Finally, a store just for cats.’”

For this self-described cat person who would get frustrated with the meager amount of retail attention given to cats versus dogs, opening Kitschy Cat Shack was a win-win.

“I’ve always wanted to start my own business,” said Zomaro, who gained experience working at pet food stores, including her sister and brother-in-law’s shop in Denver, Colorado. For the past eight years, Zomaro, who was born in Hollywood, has bartended at PRL in Downtown Hollywood, and she also designs jewelry under her artist name Electrician’s Daughter.

Choosing Hollywood’s historic downtown arts, music and entertainment district as the location for her new business was an easy decision.

“In the eight years that I’ve been working in the Downtown District, I have seen a big increase in the foot traffic,” Zomaro said. “And I’ve noticed that the monthly Downtown Hollywood ArtWalk has grown and the Artisan Market has generated the right kind of attention.” Kitschy Cat Shack’s inventory includes cat paintings by several area artists.

Kitschy Cat Shack is open daily except Wednesdays. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Upcoming events include a cat portrait painting class from 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 18.
