Luxury Creole and Caribbean Fusion Food is On the Menu for Downtown Diners at CHWA HOLLYWOOD

Chwa Hollywood

“In Haitian Creole, the word Chwa means choice,” said Haitian-born Myreille Toussaint, owner, founder and chef of CHWA HOLLYWOOD, opening Friday, June 11 at 2050 Hollywood Blvd.

“To me, that means your choice, my choice, everyone’s choice, so it was a perfect choice for the name of my new restaurant, where there’s something for everyone,” she continued. "My goal is to have every nationality try the tastes of my country, and to have all types of American cuisine infused with those flavors."

Toussaint is a recent transplant to Hollywood from Haiti via Philadelphia, where she has been in the restaurant business for almost a decade.  She knew little about Florida when a friend here called to tell her about a restaurant looking for a new owner/chef.

“You're the best chef I know,” he said, and she came to Hollywood to find out more.    Once here, she fell in love with the city and began negotiating to buy the business.

At Chwa, Toussaint’s menu is filled with American and Caribbean dishes presented in a luxurious way, all infused with the special seasonings of her homeland.   She promises that her customers will always leave satiated and happy.

Among the menu highlights are: Mimi Salad: mixed greens, pineapple-mango vinaigrette local strawberry, baby tomato, and plantain crisp, ($12); Mini Crab Cakes: prepared coastal style with Old Bay, Dijon mustard and plantains, ($16); “Cracked” Conch: seasoned and deep fried “Bahamian” style, served with pikliz (spicy cabbage, carrot and chile-laced pickles) and citrus aioli, ($20); Plantain Nachos: served on fried plantains, cheddar jack, fresh jalapeno, served with lime crema, pico de gallo, and crushed avocado prepared with seasoned steak or (Griot) Kryole fried pork, ($10 - 16); Griot: marinated tender cuts of pork, deep fried, and topped with onions & peppers, ($16); and a variety of unique brunch, drink and dessert selections.

Chwa Hollywood initially will be open for dinner, late night meals and weekend brunch. The restaurant features a full bar and a Hookah lounge, as well as live music, catering, private events and soon, happy hours. In addition, the company will be expanding its brand in 2022 with the introduction of Chwa Luxury Lounge, a larger event venue in the space next door.

Chwa is open for dine-in and take-out on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 6 pm to midnight, and weekends from noon to 2 am; they are closed on Mondays and Wednesdays.
