1. How do I apply for a grant?

2. Can I apply for more than one grant?

Each folio number may apply for one grant per property. Additionally, condominiums may only apply for one grant per property.

3. Can I apply for a grant for renovations I am doing right now?

No. Grants must have an approved contract signed by the property / business owner and the CRA BEFORE any work begins, or the work will not be reimbursement eligible.

4. Can I paint my own property and receive a grant?

No. All work eligible for any of our grant programs needs to be done by a licensed contractor registered in Broward County. All payments eligible for reimbursement must be made to a licensed contractor.

5. Are there specific paint colors required for the POP grant?

The City of Hollywood planning department has an extensive palette of acceptable colors. We invite the property owner to submit preferred colors with the application. We will work with the preferred colors to make sure the scheme is acceptable to the property owner, city staff, and CRA staff. City of Hollywood Color Chart

6. Can the CRA require I make specific improvements?

Yes. As a part of receiving the grants, we may require that you make specific improvements to your building. At minimum, the property will need to meet the CRA district minimum maintenance standards. Depending on specific conditions of your property, we may require that you include specific items in your scope of work at the CRA Executive Director's discretion.

7. Will I know for sure I will get reimbursed by the CRA?

Yes. Before you begin any work, we will enter into a contract with the property or business owner that includes a specific scope of work and a specific dollar amount. As long as this scope of work is completed to an acceptable standard, we will reimburse per the contract amount.

8. What constitutes a comprehensive renovation for the PIP and HIP grants?

A comprehensive grant should include a complete transformation of the exterior (Property Improvement Program) or the interior and exterior (Hotel Improvement Program) of the building. Depending on the size and condition of the building, this varies from property to property. However, a good rule of thumb to follow is it must include at least three different elements or disciplines (i.e., painting, pavers, and landscaping).

9. How long will it take to receive my grant?

Once you turn in a completed application, approval will take 4-6 weeks for the POP program, and 6-8 weeks for the Property Improvement and Hotel Improvement programs. Once we receive the application, we will work with you to gather any additional information that may be necessary for your particular situation or schedule you for any meetings where you may need to receive approval.

10. How long will it take to get my reimbursement check?

Once your contractors complete all work for your grant, you will need to submit final documentation to the CRA. This includes copies of the canceled checks used to pay the contractors, a final invoice that states paid in full, and photo documentation of the completed work (preferably digital copies.) Once this is submitted to the CRA, it will take 3-4 weeks to process the payment. We will contact you when we have your check.
